The Toolbar

Tool-tips can also be revealed by mousing over them. These can be chosen in the toolbar, or also selected with a key-command.

rectangular select tool

magic wand (select like colors)

move tool

resize tool

color selector (eyedrop)

pencil (draws fine, or sharp lines

airbrush (draws blurry transparent, but increasingly opaque)

eliptical select tool

pen select tool (also known as a bezier curve selector)

magnifying glass (or zoom tool, in - default, out - use shift key)

stretch tool

paintbucket - will color adjacent like colored areas

paintbrush - like the pencil, but typically used with softer lines

rubber stamp, or clone tool - used like the eyedropper to select a spot on an image to sample, and then draws like the paintbrush, duplicating the sampled area.

lasso - allows you to draw your own select lines

bezier scissors

cut tool

text, or typing tool

gradient tool - use this to apply gradually shaded regions

erase tool - use as a paintbrush to remove parts of the selected layer

smudge tool - use this to apply a blur to a specific spot on the image

 

* These are some of the more advanced tools that you'll just have to play with to understand.
