Introduction to Computers and the Internet

In this writeup, I will be covering a variety of topics ranging from what a computer is, to what it can do, and what it might be doing for us in the future. The internet has had the greatest influence on current modern society allowing for long distance scientific collaboration, grassroots political activism, business without a physical storefront, battle with large media industries (Napster and DeCSS) and even get vital information out in the middle of nowhere. The Internet won't sit still though, it is constantly growing and expanding and changing into other things.

Hello, my name is Willie Northway,
and I will be your guide today

I have been working with computers since I was about 6 years old, and have managed to continue to learn new things by reading, experimenting, and doing research.

I graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Statistics, which led me into an exciting life of programming. I spent a year working as a faculty consultant, and then moved on to work for Appnet/CommerceOne in Detroit where I participated as a team member building e-commerce websites for the last year and a half. I now am a freelance programmer doing contract work through my coordination site fluidthoughts.com.
